The feel of the breeze of the lake. The sound of the wind through the pines. And the smell of home cooking from the lodge kitchen when you’re oh, so hungry after a long day outdoors. These are the things that memories are made of, the things that bring families back to Minnesota’s resorts summer after summer. This year we share the story of the Moore's of Lost Lake Lodge.

Lost Lake is a 14 acre private lake enclosed in the resort’s 81 acres, which are on the Gull Lake Narrows near Nisswa, Minnesota.

"Our guests come to enjoy the water," Cindy said. "We have fishing boats, canoes, a pontoon boat, playaks for the kids and a paddle boat that is like a bicycle built for two and a wonderful safe and sandy beach. There’s great fishing on Gull Lake and in Lost Lake we have a catch and release program. We supply cane poles, bobbers and barb-less hooks.

Previous owners of the resort were Bill and Ethel Mae Carter. Bill Carter built the flour mill that is used to grind the flour for the fresh baked breads.

"Our muffins and rolls made with stone ground flour are astounding," says Kieran. "The flavor and texture are unique."

"We cook everything from scratch," he said. "I get the vegetables from local growers. Last week we had home grown Brussels sprouts that were really tasty and tender. Now the fresh beans are coming in. And we have some beautiful local rhubarb for our pies."

Lost Lake guests also can accompany the staff naturalists on nature hikes. The Moores also provide a supervised children’s program for the younger set.
